JPEG lossless transformations - only through file system?

in v9 there are lossless transformations: "GdPictureImaging.TransformJPEG" or "GdPictureImaging.JPEGLosslessRotate90".
why do they only take file paths as input and output parameters?
can we do it in-memory?
